Red face Koshman Koszman Wojslawice Galicia

WOW, WHAT A JOURNEY!!!!!
I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING MY FAMILY HISTORY FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS NOW.
MY GR. FATHER AND GR MOTHER; TOMASZ AND MARY KOSZMAN , WITH THEIR 6 CHILDREN-- DAN, PAUL, JACOB, MAKSYM (MAX - MY FATHER), ROSE AND MARY; LEFT WOJSLAWICE AND EMIGRATED TO CANADA.

WOJSLAWICE (PRESENT SPELLING VOYSLAVITSE ) IS ABOUT 6 KM NW OF SOKAL.

THEY, ALONG WITH ABOUT 40 OTHER PEOPLE FROM AND NEAR THERE, LEFT IN MAY OF 1913 VIA ROTTERDAM ABOARD THE SS VADERLAND.; LANDING IN MONTREAL THEN CAME WEST TO REVELSTOKE , BRITISH COLUMBIA. I HAVE FOUND THE ORIGINAL PASSENGER LIST OF THAT GROUP, AND THEY LISTED THE "REVELSTOKE POST OFFICE" AS THEIR PLACE OF DESTINATION. (WHERE I GREW UP)

IT WAS AT THIS TIME THAT I DISCOVERED THAT THE SPELLING AT THAT TIME WAS KOSZMAN, I HAVE ONLY KNOWN THE SPELLING TO BE KOSHMAN.

I HAVE SINCE THEN FOUND SOME KOSZMAN'S THAT LIST THEIR HOME VILLAGES NEAR WOJSLAWICE. AND HAVE ALSO CORRESPONDED WITH OTHER KOSZMAN'S HERE IN CANADA. BUT AS YET HAVE NOT VERIFIED THAT THERE IS INDEED A CONNECTION.

I HAVE ALSO CORRESPONDED WITH A COUPLE OF UKRAINIANS IN LVIV, BUT NOT ANYONE THAT IS FAMILIAR WITH WOJSLAWICE.

IS THERE SOMEONE OUT THERE THAT HAS INDEED BEEN TO SOKAL OR WOJSLAWICE, OR IS FAMILIAR WITH THAT AREA. OR EVEN HAS SOME PHOTOS OF WOJSLAWICE.!!

I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND A PHONE BOOK, TO FIND KOSZMAN LISTINGS , BUT WITH NO SUCCESS.

MY GR FATHERS DADS NAME WAS FRED KOSZMAN, AND HIS WIFES MAIDEN NAME WAS LUKOWICH / LUKOWEICZ ??

MY GR MOTHERS MAIDEN NAME WAS MARY LOCACZ. I REMEBER MY FATHER TELLING ME HIS MOMS NAME WAS LOKASH? (SOUNDS)

UNFORTUNATELY I DO NOT SPEAK UKR, QUITE LITTLE.

I WILL SOON BE RECEIVING FROM LDS, A MICROFILM OF "MARRIAGES FROM 1795 TO 1929, FOR GREEK CATHOLIC PARISH IN WOJSLAWICE" IT IS IN POLISH, BUT I AM HOPING THAT IT WILL NOT BE ALL THAT DIFFICULT TO FIND NAMES AND DATES OF MARRIAGES.

ANYONE WHO HAS ANY INFO ABOUT THE ABOVE NAMES AND/OR PLACES , PLEASE DROP ME A NOTE, AND I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO TALK WITH YOU.

BOB KOSHMAN

note of interest

Mount Revelstoke Internment Camp: During World War I, under the War Measures Act, internment camps were established at 24 locations across Canada for the detention of about 8,000 people, mostly Ukrainians and other Europeans, who were detained because they were considered to be enemy aliens. One of these camps was located in Mount Revelstoke National Park, and is now commemorated with the Mount Revelstoke Internment Camp Commemoration along the Meadows-in-the-Sky Parkway. The only correct spelling of the your familial surnames is in its original language, using the Cyrillic Alphabet.

You should have no problem recognizing your surnames in the metrykal records. From late 18th century they have been recorded using Latin Alphabet.
