I'm seeking info on the following German villages (1800's). Not sure if this area (District Akkerman) is in Ukraine on the Black Sea or farther north in Moldova?? Any help here would be appreciated!!
My German ancestors lived in the following towns/villages in Bessarabia: Kulm, Bessarabia now known as Podgornoje? Dennewitz now know as Prijamobalka? Sophiental now know as Sofiewka? Beresina now known as Berezina or Beresino? Kloestitz now known as Weseleja Dolina? Tarutino now known as ?? Are any of these familiar to you? These may be Russian and not Ukrainian or Moldovan names, I'm not sure? Any input would be appreciated! John from Minneapolis, MN, USA |

Hi John,
You are welcome on the forum. Some time ago there was a long discussion about Germans in Ukraine here. I'd like you to read Genealogy section of the forum. Traditionally it is the most difficult problems. You wrote all names very correctly and it looks you know geography and history of that region very well. Do you know which administrative part of Uktaine it possibly could be ( Odesa , Mykolaiv oblast ) ? Germans lived for centuries in different parts of Ukraine ( in my region -Dnipropetrovsk as well). We have a strong German community now. If you have any questions about my region, I am happy to help you. The areas you mention are very far from me. Hello from Ukraine. Good luck ! |

Hannia,
Thank you so much for your post/info about these villages! I really appreciate them! I am so happy to have this info. I am going to file these as essential information. I'm also happy to hear that none of these villages are in present day Moldova, since I know that the information from such would be much harder to find there!.. Again, I thank you for your info! john from Minneapolis, MN
