ukebandit,
If the family immigrated in the 50's, they were very likely DP's (Displaced People). Mr. Mikita might have been an Ostarbeiter/forced laborer in Germany or possibly a POW. The immediate family can easily find out the Mikita origin by making an inquiry at the Bad Arolsen Archives. These archives will provide them w/Mikita's exact experience in Germany and the exact place of birth. Inquiry by immediate family is available free of charge. All one needs to do is to provide full name and any other spelling variants and exact birth date. The inquiry can be done by e-mail. I understand the archives have upgraded their svce and response can be received via e-mail as well. Response can take as much as three months. That part has not changed. Access site below and click HUMANITARIAN REQUESTS. Follow instructions. ITS-AROLSEN.ORG |*Startseite |

Hi, Mikita,Mykyta, Mikyta,Mykita surnames in ukrainian "íéëéôá", my family - "íéëéôá", from Kroscienko now Poland and i know some families with same surnames from there, they live now in Chyrow, Dobromil,Drogobych, Lviv. We all BIG family and sometimes meet on the family weddings or funerals. My grandad was Mykola Mykyta - íéëïìá íéëéôá, he was the butcher ,our house in Kroscienko was on the river bank, next one house Anton Mykyta, members this family now live in Chyrow and Lviv.some members immigrated. My grandads family after WWII were transfered by soviet goverment to Mariupolv (south-east Ukraine) but they shortly back close to Kroscienko(but this village was already in Poland !) and they settled in Dobromil near border. He was tall and strong men and a lot of members of family is same. When we meet together its look like rugby team
