Zurawicuka?
Hello everybody,
I hope you all had a very merry Christmas! I am trying to find out where or what Zurawicuka (in Galicia) was in 1900 - One of my GGF's (Iwan Ilkiw) is listed as comming from there in the Hamburg records. I have also seen Zurawicuka listed as Zurawicuka- Federal. I have had no luck in finding info on Zurawicuka anywhere. Kind Regards, John Spak |

Hannia,
Thanks for your input. I took a look at a copy of the original record and it is obvious that one has to do some guessing to transcribe this information. Since there doesn't seem to be such a place as Zurawicuka, and the name clearly ends with the letters ko (maybe ka) I think Zurawienko is the most likely place from the possibilities you listed. But this still leaves me with the following quandry. I have Iwan's passport, military record, and some kind of decree (not sure exactly what as it is written in Polish). All these records reference Kolomea and Nazurna - so my guess was that Iwan was from somewhere near Nazurna. Also, the family always claimed to be from the Kolomea area. Can Zurawienko be considered near Nazurna or Kolomea? Would it be likely that he visited Zurawienko for some time prior to emmigrating and then used that as his most recent address? I would almost guess that there were two Iwan Ilkiw's (Ilkow in the records) except that the birthdate and year of emmigration are correct making me think this must be the right person. The Szpak side of my family is quite straight forward to trace, but this Iwan Ilkiw is beginning to seem a bit mysterious. I am wondering if you would be willing to look at copies of his records that I have digitized and give me some input. I know you are busy, so I understand completely if you don't have time to do this. Also, the files are in large PDF's - I don't know if that would be a problem to send. Kind Regards, John Spak |

My Dell should be able to handle the PDF size. Meanwhile I will take another look at the geography. ____________________________________________________________ Zuravienko GC Metrykal Records have been copied and transcribed.
