Hania,
I am sorry for the very late reply.I have been off the chat/community pages about Ukraine heritage for a while. Noticed the list and yes there are many people with that spelling. My parents actually spelt it 'Даньчук' and here is where I am having difficulty in understanding the reason for the spelling difference. I also found a Lviv phone book and did a search which gave me two lists with both spellings. A dilema I will have to resolve when I get there. Yes, it's back on again ,I think, well at least my wife and I are begining to search the travel arrangements again. I also have family on my mothers side,so I am told, by my cousins and may have some chance for family stay arrangements. That's another avenue I need to clear up .Anyway, thankyou and Merry Christmas 2007 to you and yours. Stefan.

Welcome back Stefan.
So very glad to hear that you are well. Ukrainian is a phonetic language. What you hear is what you write. The N w/the soft sign becomes a NIE sound (like in Spanish) and the N w/o the soft sign is a short N sound like in NO. Ukrainian Transliteration Table If there is anything we might be able to help with, please feel free to ask. Have a wonderful Christmas! Wishing you and your family everything you may wish for yourselves in the New Year. |

Back on again.
Hello Hannia,
I see you are still at it. Just recently came back from Canada after touring and attending the Toronto Ukrainian Festival. Met lots of people and naturally got the interest up again about going to Ukraine. This time have my sister interested also so we will be first chasing relatives in Lviv on my mothers side. Not much of an issue as my cousin in Adelaide (South Australia) was over there last year and has contacts with that side of the family. Actually, just saying hello at this moment and thank you for the past stuff. It will be put to use. Unfortunately missed meeting Bob K (in Canada), who also only just returned chasing his relations in the area. Thanks again. Stefan |

Hello Stefan.
Glad to see that you were well enough to travel. Bob K. has done a great job of locating family. I give him all the credit there is. He has been at it a long time and it has paid off for him. He had a great time meeting surviving family in Ukraine. I am honored to know him. If you need any direction, you know where we are. ____________________________________________ BTW IreneLviv, Lviv resident, has located some deportation info in Lviv library that may apply to your family members. You might consider making contact with her. This data is not available online, but she can research the info for you. Her rates are very fair. Last edited by Hannia; 22nd October 2009 at 14:11. |
