Would like Ukrainian translation for Merry Christmas ...

This past October I finally fulfilled a dream and went to Ukraine in search of relatives in the villages of Voloka and Korovia (Hlyboka raion), and Glinitsa (Kitsman raion), all of which are quite close to the city of Chernivtsi. With the help of a fabulous translator/driver I was able to find my family!

I would like to send them Christmas cards but do not how to say "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year" in Ukrainian. Could someone please help me with this?

Many thanks, Karen

You could write

Щиро вітаю з Різдвом та Новим роком ! If everything is OK you can add as well

Бажаю веселих свят.

Hope you remember that Ukrainian Christmas is two weeks later than American. Hello from Ukraine .

Serhii,

I appreciate the help. And yes, someone else has also reminded me that January 7 is Orthodox Christmas.

Many thanks and all the best to you,
Karen

Would you be willing to share info re driver/translator?

Wishing you a Happy Christmas and a Healthy New Year!

I would also be interested in knowing who your driver/translator was. In 2002, I visited the raions that you speak of, as well as the city of Chernivtsi itself. I just loved the countryside in that part of Ukraine. I will return one of these days, but not sure when.

(Belated) Merry Christmas everyone!

Karen,

The going rate is appx $100 per day. Gasoline is paid separately, since it is fairly expensive in Ukraine.

I too will pass Lydia's name and e-mail on.

Hi Hannia,

I had been told anywhere from $25 - $50 a day depending on whether they just translated or drove as well. That seemed too little to me so I am glad that we gave her what we did.
