Question canning???

Canning I need help I'am from Canada and want to do some canning here how on earth do they can with out the canners. how do they hold the jars in water with out hitting one another I had a holders for my jars and do they stand them upright or upside down. Any help, ideas would be great.

I know how to can I just need to know how you place the jars in the water, upright, upside down??? and how on earth do you make them from not hitting each other in canada we have a special huge pot and a holder for the jars. I dont need cooking times and how to prepare something I know that i just need to know how you do the jars in water totally submirsed or not??
