Hi Steve,
You do come up with some of the best questions. I love all Ukrainian food, I'm even fond of salo, which tends to make non-Ukies stomachs turn. A great Ukie Recipes page is... http://www.lucky.net/~sveta/K/Ukr/ It's in Ukrainian and English and makes my mouth water just looking at the text. Not everyone will agree that these are the correct recipes, but I find they work and my grandmothers gave the food the thumbs up when they tasted it. Nuff said ![]() My personal favourite (at the moment, anyway) is... Pork Stewed In Beer Clean removing sinews and skin, rinse, salt and panfry in butter. Place in casserole. Add sliced carrot, parsley root, chopped onions, peppercorn, allspice, bay leaf, dry mint, Pour in beer and stew. Served sliced, garnish with boiled potatoes, coat with strained stock with added butter. 500 g pork, 2 tbsp butter, 1 carrot,1 onion, 1/2 parsley root, 4 peppercorns, 2 allspice corns, 1 bay leaf, 2 cups beer, 1 tbsp dried mint, 1 tbsp butter for stock flavoring, 1 kg potatoes, salt You'll need to run a few extra miles the day after, but boy it's worth it. ![]() Take care (of your heart) Vlas.
