It was Queen Victoria that bought Indian food to Britain..she even had an Indian chef at Buckingham Palace.. as for borsch my wife cooks it and it is one of my favourite Ukrainian dishes...there will be some waiting for me when I get home this evening....

Ahh, a good helping of fish and chips and a chunk of black pudding and lots of grease. Us ex-pats so miss home for that very meal.

while we're on the subject of Okroshka, did anyone figure out a good substitute for the kvass (see other thread)?

regarding Bailey's I can't imagine why anyone would want to make an ersatz version of this revolting stuff. I agree, better just to drink the whiskey and have no truck with girly concoctions like Bailey's.

Certain kinds of English beer would probably fit the bill.
yeah, thanks Doc, you're probably right. Only trouble is, I open the beer bottle and somehow the contents never make it into the cooking pot!

Charlie just read your recipe for the Okroshka .Got to admit it does not appeal to me . Have you tried studenets? . It a concoction of vegetables in a meat jelly.
I could not eat that to save my life. Interesting posts Charlie thanks.
