Regardless of any other beliefs we hold, and however we choose to lead our lives, each of us can decide to act with kindness and compassion.
I have been a vegetarian in the past, and I am vowing once again to not eat meat, or to take life. I believe that factory farming is an industrialized cruelty. We have all heard of the inhumane way that these poor, defensless animals are turned into meat. If you choose to become a vegetarian, and help lessen the animal cruelty, then you are making a choice to respect life. Many people say that humans need meat to obtain all of the necesary nutrients. Believe it or not, being a vegetarian is actually healthier. And, a vegetarian can get the nutrients they need. According to the American Dietetic Association's position paper, vegetarian diets are associated with a reduced risk for obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetus mellitus, colon cancer, lung cancer, and kidney disease. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition recently published a series of papers describing the benifits of basing one's diets on plant foods: * High fruit and vegetable consumption is associated with a reduced risk for cardiovascular disease, several common cancers, and other chronic diseases ( such as macular degeneration and cataracts). * Legumes (e.g beans, peas, lentils, and peanuts) are excellent sources of protien, fibre, and a variety of micronutrients that may protect against disease. * Regular consumption of nuts is linked with a lower risk for heart disease and lower mortality rates. * Whole grain consumption is associated with a reduced risk for heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and stomache and colon cancers. To become healthier, try new foods in your diet. Soy products, tofu, and soymilk are actually delicious ( in my opinion ) and are high in COMPLETE protien.Beans and legumes combined with a grain source (such as beans and rice) provide a complete protien source. Try a stir fry with tofu, make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch, ect. Try to reduce the amount of meat and animal products you consume for better health.

These are simply my personal views, and the point of the post is also to inform others on the health benifits of vegetarianism. Thank you for your input. -Zdras

It is MY personal view that eating any kind of dead animal or animal product is wrong. I do not really care for the taste of dead flesh, and life is too precious. Plants-- the poor things. I gladly attack them with great relish. Salads get torn apart by me. All well. I have to eat. might as well be tofu. ![]()
