CC, a little more Ternopil oblast info...

I've been researching family connections in the Ternopil oblast as well. Here's a link to a fairly recent article titled "A Country of Castles: Ternopil oblast can become a hub of historical and cultural tourism" from the Ukrainian news agency The Day: http://www.day.kiev.ua/DIGEST/2003/05/culture/cul3.htm

Also, Lemko.org has some very detailed road maps online. I did a quick search on "Ozereny" in the Ternopil Oblast. Didn't come up an exact match for the name as you wrote it but a close one: Oz-er-ja-ne.

1. Just go to http://www.lemko.org/atlas/atlas.html
2. Click & find the "O" listings in the "Go to" field in the bottom left corner of the web page.
3. Scroll down to "Ozeriany 41-B2 (Îçåðÿíè)" and click on the blue link. This will change the map to section 41.
4. Look in quadrant B2 for Îçåðÿíè. (Bottom-right most corner of map 41 where 2 red roads and 1 black one intersect.) Maybe this is your Tata's village?

There are other Ozerianys listed in the index (Ozeriany on 42-B1 is the same village as the one mention above, just a different section of the larger map). It looks like this is the only one in the Ternopil Oblast.

Good luck and have fun!

Hannia is on a distinguished road
There are at least 20 Ozeryany in Western Ukraine today. The name itself means people who live near the lake in Ukrainian.

It looks to me that Greg has pointed you to the correct Ozeryany. It lies about 11 miles SW of Chortkiv and today is part of the Borschiv District. If down the road you consider contacting the village administrator and inquiring re any surviving family, address below:

Holovi Silskoji Rady
selo Ozeryany
Borschivskij Raion
Ternopilska Oblast
UA 48711
