I specially adress to Ukrainiens living in Ukraina !!!
------------------------------------------------------
For hundreds of years the French red wine Bordeaux was outstanding - and alone. There was nothing similar, but then people throughout the world started (California, Chile, Australia, South Afrika) to cultivate this speciality. Please do that also in Ukraina -- and please without adding sugar. Go to France to learn. I'm sure women in Ukraina will appreciate. And in summer you have so wonderful sunny weather. Coglasno ?

Gerd,

Have you ever been in the Crimea area - if you are there
buy a bottle of red wine and you will find it amazing was this summer in Yalta and brought back some bottles and we enjoyeeeeeeeeedddd them very well.
Have saved one bottle for Christmas - brought too some real ukrainian smetana and syr and saved it in the freezer for my varrenicki and borscht so we are planning to have some real ukrainian Ñâÿò Âå÷³ð on January 6 with Kutia etc. with the whole family

Hanja,

I'm glad that you enjoyed - but
the taste for wine is very different, some people like it sweet, other people like the (red) wine with sufficient Tannin (which gives a special taste and makes the wine to hold for many years), with a taste of earth and/or black-current, with corpus and arome, not forgetting the flavour when smelling - just try to buy a bottle of a first class Bordeaux vintage 2000 - I think that Ukraina has the potential to reach a world-reknown level. I would like to see Ukraina reaching top-levels - not only in boxing. Always to perform, to improve varieties and quality is the way to success. To enjoy about what you have while others spend efforts to improve . . . You know what I mean ?
I hope so.
Gerd

CABERNET SAUVIGNON???

DEAR GERD & HANJA:
SURELY EACH ONE OF YOU ARE TRUE REFERRING TO THE QUALITIES OF CABERNET SAUVIGNON WINES. POSSIBLY THEY TASTE VERY GOOD AS WELL IN CRIMEA AS IN FRANCE.
BUT............BUT.......... HAVE YOU EVER TASTING A CABERNET SAUVIGNON MADE IN ARGENTINE WITH THE REAL AND BEST GRAPES ALL OVER THE WORLD? DID YOU KNOW THAT THE BEST CLIMATE FOR THIS SPECIAL KIND OF WINE IS THAT OF AN ARGENTINE PROVINCE CALLED MENDOZA? YOU CAN COUNT WITH ONLY A FEW FINGERS OF YOUR HAND, THOSE PLACES IN WHICH THE CABERNET SAUVIGNON TASTES SO GOOD THAT IT'S A PALATE'S GIFT?
DID YOU KNOW THAT FAMOUS INTERNATIONAL CARDIOLOGYSTS RECOMMEND THIS ARGENTINE RED WINE FOR PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM HEART DISEASES?
WELL MY DEAR FRIENDS, NOW YOU KNOW A LITTLE MORE ABOUT CABERNET SAUVIGNON, THE KING OF RED WINES.
THANK YOU BOTH.
JOE.

There is an area in southwest Ukraine, in that corner up by Moldova, where a big valley was created long ago by either a river that no longer exists, or an older, different path of the Donau (Danube). The city of note there is Bolgrad, a city settled by Bulgars at the invitation of the Tsar in 1831. It grows several wonderful grapes of distinction, and superb cabernets and pinot noir emerge from there now. The price of wine is utterly determined by demand, its reputation in no small part thusly judged as well, and therein lies the humiliation: They grow a lot and make a lot and don't have any place to put it all, so it is given little respect (except by certain knowledgeable sorts). The chief taster at the vinter's there is always granted the honorific "The Nose", and his word on the subject should be heard and noted, as he carries good news for the world of wine enthusiasts, but in Bolgrad his voice is muted by the thunder of trucks arriving to tote wine and grape juice away by the barrel for a pittance. His word, if heard and heeded, would bestow on Ukraine it's rightful place as most prestigious among wine producing countries. We encourage him to be heard above the noise, that all should hear him: Nobody's nose knows like The Nose's nose knows, so speak, Beak!

Since no one has added to this thread in some time, may one suggest to anyone interested in drinking, no-- experiencing, a great wine that they try Oximat Ukraina. This amazing red comes from the vineyards of the Crimea and is as good as anything from the grand crus of France. Try it!

j_gutnik is right and by world standars Argentina is still the six largest wine producer. On the other hand Ukraine's wine production is very small and unlikely to grow larger anytime soon because of soil and climatic conditions.
