Dear Serhii!

The last thing I would normally do is correcting somebody's mistakes when speaking Ukrainian because my English is awful itself. But if we're on such a forum where Ukraine is discussed (including language) I have to say (no insults intended): "Bye" is an English meaning for Ukrainian "Buvai", not "Poka" (which is Russian) as you wrote. Thank you for the attention and excuse me please once more.

Respectfully,
Olexiy, Kyiv

Nice note, thank you Olexiy - for sure you're correct. My old internet friend Andriy from Toronto once used that terrible even to mention word - and I followed him. You know we understand each other very well. Have to say that I like to use not only Russian words, but to speak surzhik - WOW! Just to make fun. So, if I meet you one day in Kyiv , I will call you Liosha
Till then

That's absolutely OK. I usually use Russian, though I can speak Ukrainian.

How do you imagine that? You're walking along Khreshchatik and suddenly... "Serhii!!! Oh, I am so glad to see you!" -"Are you Olexiy? Liosha!! I remember what I told you - Liosha!" Or how?

Hm, Liosha, you know my native language is Ukrainian and I can , but do not like , to speak Russian. But very often I have to, you know... I am going to come to Kyiv very soon , so everything is possible if you avoid learning and spend much time on Khreshcatyk It seems you have to be at school now

Remember difference in time - it's 5 o'clock PM now in Kyiv.
I've already said I can speak Ukrainian.
