I just today read that from this Monday 43 mines in Ukraine were stoped (see http://www.for-ua.com/news/2002/07/31/175556.html) because of dangerous working conditions, and still almost each week there is some tragedy.

What a shame, an economicly unviable industry with such steep casualties.
