There is a growing trade in the illegal transportation of young Ukrainian and other East European women to the west. The young women are often conned by the promise of work only to find themselves in a huge amount of debt and are then forced to work as prostitutes to pay this money back... which they never can.
It seem to me that this subject (a huge cause for concern) is being grossly over looked in the west. What do you think? Are ethnic Ukrainians in the west doing enough? Do you know of any organizations that are looking into this issue? What could we do, if anything, about it?
This is a link to the report from the 1988 Budapest Seminar on Trafficking Women:- http://www.globalsurvival.net/projec...k/budapest.pdf
I would be grateful for any ideas or opinions,
TIA
Vlas.

I read about this problem. It is truly an awful thing. Exploiting woman who only wish to better themselves. But from the artical I read, it was mostly europeans exploiting them, not "yanks". This artical is probably not all of the story, but it is the only information that I saw on the web concerning this crime.

I think you're right, the problem seems to be focused in Europe, The Nederlands and Germany seeming to be the main perpetrators. However, I think all European countries are contributing to this shameful trade. With regard to the USA, I believe I'm right in saying, that there are growing instances of this in New York, I may be well of the mark. This is what I'm trying to find out about and raise awareness of.
Do you think you or any of you friend could do something to raise awareness of this problem?
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Vlas

Steve..i heard about this also and you are right...It is focused primarily in Germany. It is unfortunate that people exploit those seeking to better themselves, promising them a better life to be then inputed into prostitution, where they are slaves and not really free because of the necessity to pay back debt. Sometimes when I see what other people are willing to subject others to for their own selfish desires it saddens me to the point that I wish I was not a part of the human race. It is truly a sad state of being foe some people..including many others such as children in south eastern asia and migrant workers from Mexico. It proves that one must educate themseves regarding something that holds promise before actually doing it. I wish I had more money and clout to help those ywho can not help themselves. Steve out.

I'm glad to see that there are others here who know about this problem and share the same concerns. If you want to know more about this then you can go to the following link: www.brama.com/issues.nytart.html
When I first read this article I was naturally very alarmed and sent a copy to my girlfriend in Ukraine. If you want to help stop this problem then print off this article and send it to anyone in Ukraine
( especially young women ) who could fall victim to this inhuman act of brutality.
