On 20th May 2000, Ihor Bilozir was kicked to death by Russian speakers at the Tsisarska Kava bar in Lviv.
1/Does anyone on the discussion forum know who he was?
2/Why he was so important?
3/What the ramifications of his murder were?

Or are we more concernd with other things?

I think it is a little distressing that nobody has given this guy a second thought.

Vlas.

I know the answers to the questions... do you?

Okay I have no idea who the dude actually was. But I guess, I know why he is so important - it is just another reason tp start the Russian-Ukrainian fire again. Okay, would you be so nice as to spred some light concerning this matter ?

Cheers,
Olesya

Question

Other than causing some people to act on emotion instead of intelligence, I don't see where the incident has much to do with anything that is profitable for the Ukraine.

Hi Nonson,

I agree, I don't think Ihors murder will generate much in terms of profitability for Ukraine. However, at the time it caused a national out cry, that a Ukrainian could be killed for speaking Ukrainian in his native Ukraine.

What is interesting about the article is how it is based on rumor as opposed to fact. There are a few nutters still stirring up trouble, but I've been to Lviv twice since Ihor murder and I can definitely say I don't recognize this picture.

All the bars play Russian music. I saw service staff speaking to non-Ukrainians in Russian. The last time I was there a street trader thought I must be Czech and despite talking to her in Ukrainian, which she understood, she answered me in Russian; no hassle no aggravation.

These event are important to socio-political development of Ukrainian and need examination in a non-hysterical manner.

Take care

Vlas

Steve, it was from the socio-political spectrum that I posted a response on this matter. I just can't see any way the 'incident' might carve out something that might be of value in either the sociological or political realities of the region. Peace
