Greetings,
Ah, Mr. Putin. As long as he is not a Lacky of Mr. Yeltsin, we should give him the benefit of the doubt. I think we would all benefit from a strong Russia. It would help to keep China under control. It would also keep the CRAZIES in the US confused and under control.
Regarding George Bush, he is intellectually challanged. Just watch him. He will stumble
with his Mothers Name. That Evil smirk, just drives me up the wall. I can just see him make a speech to call the country to ARMS
against an enemy and right at the crucial
moment brake into that stupid smirk. I do not think that I could take that.

Egads...

Beata - I thought you'd gone to Texas, and taken Rex up on his offer. Maybe your there now. Must have been a fast flight Anyhow, I agree Monica is a 2nd round draft pick in any neighbourhood. I think we have covered Monica enough already on the board - so I won't go on.

I don't care who you vote for in the US, because neither of them look good to me. It is a pity you are limited to two turns. I'd have liked to see Clinton stay on. I don't know what you all think.

Putins reception in the UK was a surprise to me. I thought you guys had more integrety then that. I actually thought he was congratulated for Chechnia?? Anyhow be carefull with this cowtailing because you'll wind up like us and Indonesia; them thinking it's ok to do anything and us aggreeing, up until the last moment, thus putting them into shock. Then it gets ugly. Hopefully your government is more sophisticated then ours...

Putin has begun the push-shove process with Ukraine. Today he chastised Ukraine for its $1.4 Billion debt for natural gas. Kuchma admitted that many industries tapped into the pipeline without permission, and without paying. Nonetheless, he disputes the size of the debt. Putin says the two countries must work toward brotherhood, understanding, and mutual defense. It was not necessary for him to mention NATO.

Re: G. Bush, or "Dubya:" He's now coopting Democratic positions, such as affordable housing and a health plan (that still won't make health insurance affordable for working poor). Someone here quoted Jerry Garcia recently, to the effect that if you choose the lesser of two evils, you still get evil. I'm going to write in Adlai Stevenson again. When ya find a good candidate, stick with him.

Fog, I don't believe you're really, deep in your heart, sympathetic to the Religious Right, except for speaking in tongues here once in awhile. You have a heart, and aren't self-righteous.

Elsewhere in America, the President is letting his tall, slow-witted attorney general twist slowly in the wind on the Elian Gonzales issue.

Wooosh,

That went straight over my head.

Does this mean Putin is a bad guy now? - or at least not cool, John?

Hello John,
I hope that you folks don't mind but I got a story to tell you about speaking in tounges.
About 10 years ago, I had a business associate come to Houston to visit me. Before he came I wanted to know what he would like to do while he was in town. Would you like to go to a baseball game, Would you
like to go fishing, would you like to go
deep sea fishing, would you like to go to a girly show, no he wants to go see John Osteen speak. John who just recently passed away was an Evengelical Preacher of the highest caliber. He was carried on TV in every state and in some foreign lands. What the heck, I figured that this will be interesting. I called the church secretary
and bribed her into saving two seats for us in the FRONT ROW. I figured that I might as will see it close up. The place was really full. They sang and there was some praying, and finally Brother Osteen started his sermon. There was a very nice healthy looking
girl that was doing the sign langauge for the hearing impaired. I mean she was a knock out.It was much easier to watch her than to listen to Brother Osteen. Soon Brother Osteen started to say words that I did not understand. I asked my friend what he was doing, and he said that Brother Osteen was speaking in tongues. I thought that it was odd. What really got me confused was the fact that the knock out just kept on giving the sign language translation. Now, how can that be, and why was it necessary? I mean the spirit should have touched everybody. About half way through the service, all visitors were asked to get up and introduce themselves. I thought that I was going to die. I would have used a fictitous name like Vladi but I did not want to confuse my associate. When my associate came to visit the next time I made sure that he had a Rental Car and a good map with the Lakeside Church marked in red on the map.
That's my my only experience with speaking in tongues. I am going to watch Foggy though.

Phil: My Man Volodya is just doing what is best for Russia, but it means that, as Zhenya correctly observed, his "defense of Russian interests" will include pushing Kuchma around for awhile. It's also a signal that Chernomyrdin, head of Gazprom, has weight with Putin as the leader of an important enterprise. I think it also means that this strategic resource is taken seriously by Putin, and is now back under control of the state.

Bill: I can picture that girl's fingers just flying to keep up with the glossalalia. I personally think that incoherence is incoherence, whether inspired by the Great Ghost or Stolichnaya. The latter will get ya there without having to find a parking space in the church lot. Where's Foggy?
