Hey, Ruslana, thanks for the topic!
Everybody in this group: what do you think about the level of education in Ukraine these days? Its future? How can you compare it to the education abroad? I can't talk about many specializations myself but since I'm doing my MBA (business administration) now (in Belgium), I can say that back in Ukraine, ICU-Kyiv (http://icu.ratman.kiev.ua) is really "up to standards"! I spent there four undergraduate years and have never seen yet a school with such a high ratio of bright "self-starter". Here in Belgium, it's more difficult to get students invloved in any social activities apart from beer-drinking and I can say that the ICU-Kyiv Alumni are much more broad-minded and result-driven than most of the business graduate here in Belgium. As for the Ukrainian state universities--ICU-Kyiv is a private school--I know that most of them are suffering from the corrupted practices of examinations and the brain-drain of bright faculty members... Well speaking from my experience, Ukrainian education is a lot better then American one. In Second grade I learned a lot in Geography, I learned all countrys, large citys, economy and little history about all of them. When I came to U.S. in 5th grade I found out that american children do not know what continent they live on, some said "New-York" other said "United States".

Ukrainian education- or maybe better say: former USSR education, because the educational programs are the same all over the current CIS countries now- is much better than the same abroad, as for my experience.
It looks like, the quality of knowledge is much higher and at almost no price at all. |

Hi, Stas,
I did not mean Ukrainian language, I meant the whole concept of giving knowledge or teaching and the program of education. Definitely all the countries concentrate more on their national culture and history and language, but still there are so many other subjects to study and in the CIS countries the educational programs are the same like before. And they are really good. |

HI TO EVERYBODY HERE! I AM NEW HERE BUT I WANT TO EXPRESS MY OPINION ABOUT EDUCATION LEVEL IN UKRAINE AND ABROAD. FIRST, THE EDUCATION IN UKRAINE ITSELF IS MUCH BETTER OF COUNTRIES OF WESTERN WORLD, BUT WE SUFFER A GREAT LACK OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND METHODS OF EDUCATION.SO, ITS MY GENERAL OPINION OF EDUCATION.

Hey guys,
I think, education in the US is more interesting, more fun, and makes more sense to me. First of all, you can choose what classes you want to take and how many of them in a semester. Second, when I was in colledge in Ukraine, all I remember was A LOT OF theory, you had to be able to prove very long, boring, complicated theorems and sometimes you wouldn't even know where this theorem/law applies. On an exam, you had to talk to your professor, who never smiles, face-to-face, what a torture! I'm doing MS in Math/Stats right now and I can see the difference in education!! It isn't that easy, because you get tons of home work and frequent tests, but you learn more applied stuff that makes sense and makes it fun to study. |
