Ah Chretein for Kuchma? Chretein has pulled some shinanigans in office that have stirred debate. He used his power to secure a government loan for a hotel in the riding he represents in parliament. I don't think Kuchma could get away with a lot of things in Canada though, but it is a curious thought still. For some reason I don't think Chretein would survive in Ukraine, or Kuchma in Canada. They are likely creatures of environment... hahaha!
It's no secret I live in Saskatoon. It's in the western half of Canada, and has one of the larger Ukr. populations too! We actually have a statue of Lesya Ukrainka here too, if that counts for anything, and the first Canadian-Ukrainian Museum is here too. It's a beautiful city. Do you know anyone who has been there etc? |

In short we deserve our leaders... The worst I see no ray of hope for Ukraine. Kuchma has got over "kassette scandal" and his behavour is impudent. Opposition acts independently. I don't know anyone in Canada and from Canada. I'm glad that you are saving traditions maybe more then in Ukraine. I live in east part of Ukraine. |

Well many country's citizens don't deserve the beating they took from some of the leaders in history. Thinking about it makes me bitter, and deepens my resolve to force something positive in the future. I am still young (18 yrs) and I have a lot 'on my plate' in the future. Time will tell if one person can make a difference. Kuchma certainly is. All the words I write here, and helping with the charity for #57 orphanage in Chernivitsi is nice and good, but really counts for nothing in the big picture.
History will be my judge. Although Ukrainians in Canada try to preserve some of that tradition, and there are tons of people who are into Ukrainian dance and go to Ukrainian festivals to watch and drink horilka. When they participate in these things and don't care what is happening in their homeland, not one can look me in the face and tell me that they love Ukraine. By ignoring Ukraine, they have the same stake as Kuchma in my books. They are apathetic. We love our Ukrainian culture in Canada. Canada owes Ukraine back. Otherwise we have blood on our hands. |

Dear JetSet,
when you'll be older you'll understand that "there's no punishment without guilt". Ukraine is gulping its kasha. It's hurt to understand but I think you'll agree that it's more paintful for me. I'm glad that you are worried about Ukraine but believe me now Ukraine contains 20-30% patriots. The rest - indifferent people. Would you explain me what does the phrase mean "all the words I write here, and helping with the charity for #57 orphanage in Chernivitsi is nice and good, but really counts for nothing in the big picture". Can you write by Ukrainian? As for Canadian's Ukrainians... I saw moustached "diadkiv" in my city bringing some books about Bandera for our library. Twofold feelings... In my opinion they were intoxicated by their action. I respect Bandera but it would better to give some lectures or to pass some computer for school, or simply to act as patron on an Ukrainian school.I don't know... On the other side a lot of Ukrainians consider Canadian's Ukrainians only as means of richeness. You know I used to need help from Canada (for Ukraine not for me!!!) and nothing!!! I had thought after:"Why the Jewish help each other but Ukraininans are deaf?" |
