I am really not liking this. The only thing I am afraid of is another Kursk story..if Ukrainian investigation proves Polish side to be guilty. This can really damage Ukraine-Polish relationships! And I do not see any good coming from it!
Did press tell how far his wife is preagnant? And why anyone would work abroad with a pregnant wife in the first place? OK, let's assume that...it is "love". I also read in another source that there also was a chase. How true is it? Why would a normal citizen attack a policeman for nothing? And why a normal poloceman woud shoot a speeding up driver for nothing? |

One cannot reverse the tragic occurence. It is tragic to both sides, and to each for a different reason. Whatever the findings, arrived at by full and open investigation, show - the consequences should not take international proportions. The UFM team, headed to Poland, is not to dig dirt, but to ascertain the truth. The Poland Government, by sanctioning the trip, is acting in good face too. These are the developments that should quiet the uneasy emotions by the outsiders. Exercizing patience, for the true facts to unravel, is the only virtue expected of the public at large. To do otherwise, or to advance some outlandish analogies, is irrational and counterproductive.

I don't think that this incident must consider from political standpoint.
I censure some of ukrainian parties which were declamed yesterday in front of polish's embassy: "Polish Minister of Internal Affair - to resignation!". Firstly, it's an interference in Polish internal affair, secondly - this demand sounds silly after we couldn't dismiss our (ukrainian)Minister of Internal Affair. |

As pointed out aptly, by the preceding post, the effort by the prematurely aroused Ukrainian protesters, against the Poland Interior Minister {IM}, could have been put to better use against Kravchenko. The Ukraine IM's shady behavior, in the Gongadze case, deserves more imminent attention.
One can only hope that the "Ukraine without Kuchma" Kiev rally, scheduled for this February 6th, will draw support of the masses, who are more cognizant of their real adversary. emkay/02/02/01 [Edited by NORRYM on 3rd February 2001 at 06:38] |

Sincirelly I don't understand the course of Polish officials. Kwasniewski made a statement before public prosecutors finished the investigation. In the state of law (Poland is claiming to be so) act designated services which are responsible for drawing the conclusions. Helping them in doing thier job is, delicatly saying, preliminar.

The terms - "state of law", "designated services" - do not contribute to the confidence in an equitable and objective clarification of the case. Polish government cannot afford to hide behind the facade of imposingly sounding, but devoid of assured untegrity, institutional claims. In the interest of truth, the government should open the door to a special inquiry, not bound to any preconceived routine or constraint. Only then could the special team, delegated by Ukraine MFA, conduct a meaningful assesment of the resolution.
