Ukraine Giving Up Uranium

Who thinks this is good news?

I don't think it should have been done.

Ukraine To Get Rid Of Highly Enriched Uranium, White House Says

I think that they should hold on to it also. I think that they use it in their reactors for electricity. Not all atomic energy is used for bombs.

bad move

Belarus is keeping theirs, Lukaschenko is awesome and sticking it to USA/Russia and saying Belarus wont be bullied by the greater powers

Ukraine needs to grow a spine, and stop selling out

I wish we still had nukes...

My exact point. I don't know history best, but didn't Ukraine give up its nukes with basically the same situation? A promise to work together and blah blah blah.

No offense, but I find it funny how the US is usually the one to ask for nations to part with their resources while being the last one's to part with theirs.

The US just signed a deal with Russia to reduce the numbers by 1/3. Now the world can only be wiped out 99 times more than is needed.

Reading in todays Kyiv Post, the president is giving up more than enriched uranium. Sounds like the Donetsk don and Putin puppet have signed a deal that virtually wipes out Ukraine as a free nation. Black Fleet extension for 25 years, clean slate of past history and memory and Russian companies first bids on strategic state companies.

well guys there was chernobyl. I'm sure it is still a sensative subject when it comes to nuclear fuel.

I don't think Ukraine had the budget to continue operating nuclear weapons. Ukraine also use to have long range bombers with the ability to carry nuclear weapons too but scrapped them as well in 2003 i think.

The thing of the matter is the U.S. and Russia don't have a lot of ready to go nuclear weapons installations. The U.S. and Russia mostly have huge stockpiles of nukes that can be assembled in a few hours time. These stockpiles shoudl be reduced.

I believe the idea is for every nuclear armed country to reduce at the same time.

However there is complications with that. For one Isreal claims they have no nukes when they probably do and North Korea won't disarm without any clear incentives.

I personally believe nuclear weapons are just a waste of money to maintain and operate. They are the most bogus deterrant i have ever heard of.
