2010 US Census - Be Ukrainian!

Don't forget to think about the 100-500 dollar fines for not filling in the answers correctly. IE: if you were born in the USA then you're a native american... Right?

Race? Sure as long as it's 1/4 mile!

Then ask your self this... Why did they seperate hispanics from mexicans? Someones got something up their sleeves.. AND it's not going to be pretty.

they didn't separate Hispanics from Mexicans. it was either not Hispanic, or yes followed by prominent examples

If I was in The US I'll have to opt for Hispanic (birthplace) parents Pochaiv and Kriemenec and white, blonde, blue eye and then again wouldn't a Latino put white in that form?
Wait! may be I am bleached Latino!

I wouldn't worry about fines regarding race because half of all people don't know what it means. I took a class just last year where the teacher tried to explain what is Hispanic and Spanish and what is race and what is that. Until they make up their own mind, make up your own race.

But about your point, it depends on how you argue it. Some may argue that you inherit your nationality. Think about it, if a pregnant woman visits another country, and has the baby there, nationality remains that of the mother and father.

I find the whole Census process very weird. I have my mayor practically begging us to fill it out (so he gets funding), then you get it in the mail and they try to scare you because its required by law.

Формат цьогорічної анкети відрізняється від того, що використовували останнього разу в 2000 році. У короткій формі анкети перепису населення графа «етнічне походження» відсутня! Тому ми просимо всіх українців у розділі «інші раси» під номером 9 , відмітити свою належність до української нації слідуючим чином:

1. Поруч із «білою расою» - White зробити позначку і написати Ukrainian або Ukrainian American.

2. В останньому рядку цього розділу зробити позначку Some other race – «Якась інша раса чи походження» та написати Ukrainian або Ukrainian American.

Ми чудово розуміємо, що етнічне походження відрізняється від расового, але для нас це єдина можливість заявити про нашу численну українську громаду. Завдяки перепису населення можна встановити точне число українців, які проживають в США, що в свою чергу вплине на розподіл державних коштів та політичне представництво на користь української громади.

Після того як Ви заповните анкету, відішліть її поштою не пізніше ніж 1 квітня, 2010 року. Якщо Ви не повернете анкети вчасно, до Вас можливо зверниться представник Бюро перепису населення.

Слід також пам’ятати, що всі українці повинні взяти участь у переписі, адже він жодним чином не відстежує ні статусу учасників, ні навіть їхнього громадянства, а стосується всіх осіб, що проживають у США станом на 1 квітня 2010-го, і навіть тих, що тимчасово відсутні. І тут не так важливо подати Ваше правильне ім’я, як наголосити на тому, хто Ви. І найголовніше: перепис населення-2010 – наш єдиний шанс заявити про себе на наступне десятиліття, позаяк на іншу нагоду доведеться чекати аж до 2020 року.

Не будьте байдужими та повідомте про це своїх сусідів і друзів. Будьмо єдиними в цій важливій справі для нашої громади й українсько нації.

CENSUS 2010: "Make Sure You Tell Them You Are Ukrainian"
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, forms were mailed to every household nationwide. You are asked to complete the 10-question form and mail it back by April 1, 2010.

Should you need assistance, the Census form is available in Ukrainian on the U.S. Census Bureau Web site at: http://2010.census.gov/2010census/pdf/LAG_Ukrainian.pdf

As you may know, this year’s format is different than the one used during last Census in 2000. This year there is going to be just one short form and does NOT include a question about one’s ethnic ancestry. Therefore, we are asking ALL Ukrainians to mark your ancestry on the form nonetheless, by doing the following:

Under Question 9 under "Some Other Race”, please do two things:

1. In block #9 check off WHITE and write in "Ukrainian" (or "Ukrainian American") right next to it.

2. Later in the same question, where it states some other race, write in "Ukrainian" (or "Ukrainian American") in the blocks provided.

We understand that race is not the same as ethnicity or ancestry, but unfortunately this is the only way our community can make its presence known during Census 2010. The correct count of Ukrainians in the USA will influence government funds allocation and political representation as it pertains to the Ukrainian community.

After filling out all fields, you will need to mail it back by April 1, 2010. If you will not mail it back, you can expect to be contacted by a Census representative.

Please keep in mind that all answers on the Census are strictly Confidential and will NOT be released to other governmental agencies. This means that everyone should fill out the form, regardless of their immigration status.

Finally, please make sure to forward this information to as many persons of Ukrainian heritage as possible and encourage them to do the same.

It's kinda cool how the message spreads. Our priest told us to do that.

In either case, small correction. You would only need to write Ukrainian on the bottom, near some other race.
Writing it on top means your an American Indian or Alaska Native. And writing it next to White would not be interpreted.
