VW Group Will Build Skoda Yeti in Ukraine
VW Group Will Build Skoda Yeti in Ukraine
Quote:
SOLOMONOVO, Ukraine — Eurocar, the producer of VW Group brands in Ukraine, has announced that it will build the Skoda Yeti SUV.
The company is completing installation of the new production line. Yeti production is scheduled to start this month, according to the company.
The Skoda Yeti is a front- or all-wheel-drive five-seater based on the Volkswagen Golf V.
Analysts said that prices for the Skoda Yeti in Ukraine will be set at around $25,000, which will be slightly lower than the imported Skoda ($28,500). This places it in the mid-price segment in the area. Among its main competitors will be the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Nissan Qashqai and Suzuki Grand Vitara.
The world premiere of the Skoda Yeti took place last March at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show. Production started in the spring at Skoda's plant in Kvasiny, Czech Republic, and European sales kicked off in September. Russian sales of the Yeti started in December.
In addition to the Skoda Yeti, Eurocar has also announced plans to assemble the Skoda Octavia A5 starting in the fall. By the end of 2010, Eurocar plans to launch full-scale car production with capacity of up to 100,000 cars per year.
