Many politicians suggest that Ukraine should celebrate it as a Memory Day on 8 May with the rest of Europe.

Two Europes in one

According to explanation which is prevalent in Poland, the whole backlash between May 8 and 9 originated only because of European time difference as the act of Nazi Germany unconditional surrender took place on May 8 at 11 p.m. in Berlin while in Moscow it has already been May 9, 1 a.m.
However, the whole things functions as a symbol of Russian separatism from the rest of Europe.
(as far as I know Kyiv's time is exactly between Moscow and Berlin time and again, it can be seen as a symbol of a country torn between the West and the East).

Time has nothing to do here - I said Memory Day instead of Victory Day - since Ukraine was not a warring nation - USSR -> Russia was.

Ukraine wasn't a part of USSR? Only Russia was? And,anyhow,I fully expect Ukrainian nationalists to spit in the face of all surviving WW2 veterans.

My Grandfather was an Ukrainian nationalist. But he would damn to hell all those, who try to separate Ukrainians and Russians.I could care less about Kyiv and mAAskva and all those filthy politics. My concern is -people.Ivan,Petro and Ahmet were friends and brothers, and so they sould be long after ultra-nationalists scum is dead and forgotten.

But it was a union. Ukrainians are seperate from Russians? Just like yakuts are not Russian.

I feel nationalism is ok just as long as it does not support violence
