Here is a great deal of information on Chernobyl' -

Chernobyl - Tschernobyl - Information

My husband worked in the Chernobyl' zone, in a military hospital. They tested for radiation and tested people living outside the zone. He said that when he first went into the zone, he realized, for the first time, how alive trees are, because of the effects from the radiation - the trees "bled". He said the scene was eerily like a Tarkovsky film he'd seen in the 1970's.

I don't think you can say that everything is clean, Max.

I read that mushrooms carried a high dose of the isotope too. From what I understand, the mushrooms eat the radiation that is in the ground.

The explosion spewed equivalent radiation of more than 200 Hiroshima bombs into the air, contaminating large parts of Europe. In Finland it is recommended that boiling mushrooms and then discarding the water, which typically removes between two-thirds and 90% of radioactive materials such as Cesium 137.
