My Vista Ultimate

Someone created a thread over at russia.com "Is Microsoft new VISTA System worth the catch?" So i posted a screenshot of my machine for everyone to view. Judge for yourselves.



With Aero Glass, Flip 3D, Dreamscene all enabled. MS Office applications like Excel spreadsheet, PowerPoint (slideshow running), Winamp (playing a tune), Winrar, multiple Explorer tabs opened...

Is your PC dual core?

I upgraded my work and laptop computers to MS Office 2007 and it runs just fine, but I've been told that VISTA will slow my computer down too much... Do you find it slower?

Yes, its Intel Pentium Dual Core CPU.
Actually, despite claims from 'technical experts' (those who advocate *nix OSes), its actually not too bad. Yes, you do need to have at least 1GB memory to be able to run the nice gadgets and widgets on Vista, but its a great improvement from its predecessor, XP (especially concerning the kernel and its security features). I have been using Vista Ultimate for about 2 months now and so far, no hiccups whatsoever.

I personally do not support the upgrade to Vista
I feel that it is a waste of money. And even if you get it cracked, you still need to waste a lot of money on hardware.

Linux and XP multiboot work great.

Ubuntu (Feisty Fawn 7.04) in VM mode on Vista.

Ubuntu is what i use, but the reason why I did not mention it was because quite a few times I considered switching, never did though.

For those who dont know, Ubuntu is a Linux Operating System
It is free, has free software with it, and has great support.
Requires minimal hardware and runs great.

Linux is a good way of running old computers, but it doesn't do too well with the new ones. The setup is dead simple on the old machines and excruciatingly painful on the new ones, there is always one thing or another that needs a special set up.

I used to run a Madrake, it is not Mandriva and I liked it. It sped up my 5 year old laptop, but once I got a new laptop... I just can't be bothered.

Another question has always been the compatibility. OpenOffice is a decent program but the files will look different if you open them later in MS Office. And to be perfectly honest, MS Excel, Access and Word work way faster than OpenOffice.

All in all, you can't beat FREE, people on the budget should try linux.
