Putin to Russian billionaires: Pay up

Hannia
For me this article has greater interest than almost any other you have posted thus far.
We have both given references concerning the negative effects upon the Putin regime resulting from the Crimea takeover. Putin is bathing in the glory of his recent acquisition, but as many of us realise, the Kremlin is taking on some nightmare administration and financial burdens. Thus it would make sense for Putin to start telling his "friendly" oligarchs to to return their capital back to the motherland.

The British Prime Minister David Cameron has thus far always conducted policies supportive of his political party's sponsors, the City of London financial institutions. When the USA first started to mention economic sanctions against Russian overseas interests, the first noises coming from 10 Downing Street were muted with insipid talk about a few visa restrictions of certain Russians with more positive action against any Yanukovych family assets only.

Yesterday and today we have heard of a stronger line to be taken by the UK government. I am wondering if this is because they are now being leaned on by the Obama administration, or whether London's top financiers sense that there will be an imminent exodus of funds by Russian oligarch interests from London.

David Cameron is speaking out strongly for united action to be taken against Russia. Angela Merkel is worried about her future gas supplies and Cameron usually supports the bankers above all others.
If David Cameron declares firm sanctions against Russian money in the next days I believe it will be nothing more than cunning ploy to stop Russian money going homeward, thus helping his City chums more than to deny Putin much desired extra cash. David Cameron has shown a great disregard for his own UK citizens so far and I don't believe he is predisposed to helping Ukrainian citizens from the kindness of his heart either.
