Zbyszek, believe me, if you mean the show so it's democratic process... This is pure popularity as it is. People voted, people got it. Just supported and selected figures are in the list. Everything is clear, the will of people is supreme even if it is TV show.
As about your researches of ancient-Rus history, I'd like to cite the Nestor:
