Hey dude, Rurick was knight aka aristocrate and had his own title and retinue or prince's armed force. Igor was his son and Oleg was his soldier (or relative) and regent for little Igor. Dir and Askold were Northmen which ruled the Kyiv but were killed by Oleg. This is how the Rurick's royal dinasty has been begun.

There are Scandinavian cronicles which tell about adventures of Northmen in Gardariki country, icluding names of Vikings and Rus cities.

Besides, European sources give his lifeway before he came to Rus.

And there are 3 or 4 Slav chronicles including the Nestor's most famous one which give the picture in details.

For example, Rurick got supreme power in Novgorod in 862 and died in 879 likely because of rebellion. Oleg with Rurick's 3 y.o. son Igor left the Novgorod in 882 and went to Kyiv where their soldiers meanly killed Princes Dir and Askold, who also were Northmen.

There is famous ancient-Rus epos "The word about Igor's regiment", and mentioned Prince Igor is for sure son of Rurick.

It's not my books, buddy, these are Nestor's "The chronilce of past years", Yakimovskaya chronicle, Raskolnicheskaya chronicle. All are ancient-Rus sources.
