Having recently spent 10 days ( my second visit, this visit was to visit my in laws )in Kiev, I can say I never had any trouble with the Ukraine Police, in fact I can honestly say that the Police in Kiev have been very friendly towards me, knowing that I was from another country. My wife said I stood out as a tourist with the way I dressed, and although at times I thought the police where about to get heavy handed with me, they where more intrested in finding out how my stay in Kiev was going and if I was enjoying myself.
Even after having watched England on a Television in a bar in Kiev wearing my England colours, I never had a single problem with either the Public or the Police, all I can say is that those people who have had problems have either done something wrong or brought about a situation themselves, that warrented the police getting involved.
I am not saying that Ukraine is correction free, but arent most Countries on the take at some point, along with a lot of MPs. My advice greet the police, talk to them, shake there hand, because I found doing that put them on the back foot so to speak, but should any one have any problems, then inform your Embassy so they can take the right action.
