Welcome Kathy.
You will probably be better off asking the Administrator to move your post to the genealogy forum.

Your ancestral Majdanka is today called selo/village Majdan > Mizhirskij (Mizhirya) raion/district > Zakarpatska oblast/region > Ukraine. If your family member was Rusyn/Ruthenian, he/she would have attended church in selo Holyatyn. This selo Majdan (place name means SQUARE, originating from Turkish language, and there are quite a few villages w/this name in Ukraine) has a population of 1,717 and the Village Mayor's name is Oleksa Markovich. In 1900 this was the Marmaros megve/ region/county, which was part of the Kingdom of Hungary > Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Today there are appx 230+ individuals carrying Mohorita (Могорита in Ukrainian) surname still living in the Zakarpatska oblast.
