Szakály surname

Hello everyone!

I'm picking up the reins of the family genealogy from my mother, who posted here a couple years ago and received some amazing help. Her screen name is Chatsol, for those who might remember her.

I recently discovered additional information on my great grandfather and his mysterious origins. Although he went by the name(s) Vasyl/Basil/Charles Sokol, his naturalization paperwork shows his real name was László Szakály.

László immigrated with a few friends; Gabor Bacsko, Janos Viscsak and Janos Furjarricza. They were on the ship Slavonia, which departed from Fiume (now Rijeka, Croatia) in June of 1906 and arrived in New York in July. They were headed to Wilkes-Barre, PA, where Gabor Bacsko's brother lived.

According to the ship's manifest, his place of last residence was Felso Viznicze, which now appears to be named Verchnja Vyznycia. This corresponds to the information that Hannia gave my mother a couple years back; based on different documents, they determined the names were Vyshnja Vyznyzja (Polish version) and Felsoviznicze (Hungarian Version).

I was unable to locate Verchnja Vyznycia on a map, but did find Verkhnia Vyznytsia - might this be the same place or am I looking in the wrong spot?

In the meantime, I'm now attempting to trace the name László Szakály- and not having much luck. Has anyone come across this surname in their research? Or does anyone have any tips on where I should be looking next?

I look forward to speaking with everyone!
