jakimicha is on a distinguished road
new information, progress

I have new information that may be putting me on track!

I talked to the church where eva's son (my grandfather) was baptized. It listed her maiden name as KOT. My uncle dug out the deed/abstract for the grandmas house and found her maiden name listed as KOT, and lastly, family stories say this was her maiden name too. So, it looks like social security had a mistake on the form.

Now, we know that Eva came over with the name "eva kot", had a father with a name similar to 'william' and a mother with the name of or similar to 'anna'. Oral history says that she travelled here with her father and the sisters/mother stayed back. Obviously, that is not gospel.

I don't have access to the Hamburg, Philly, Baltimore, etc passenger lists. But I'm going to grab a month of ancestry.com world.

I did find the following on ellis island- a single Kot, around grandmas age, different first name from Dobromil, Galicia. It may be completely unrelated, but there may be a connection of some sort that becomes clear later.

First Name: Anna
Last Name: Kot
Ethnicity: Austria-Ruthenian
Last Place of Residence: Dobromil, Galicia
Date of Arrival: May 13, 1912
Age at Arrival: 17y Gender: F Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: George Washington
Port of Departure: Bremen
Manifest Line Number: 0007
