She moved here before the first world war and had 0 contact with anyone back in the 'old country'. She likely would've had no idea where the village was with respect to changing borders but probably assumed it was poland because in the usa there were many poles around and their language was the same.
She came over with her father when she was relatively young and he went back to get the rest of the family but never returned so she basically raised herself from early teen years on. Her son and daughters were all born and raised here in indiana. They attended a nearby catholic church here (I believe her husband was baptized catholic even though he was ruthenian) and I have no idea what religion she was baptized. This social security thing is the only bit of info I've ever been able to find.
I also had Dobropole as a guess before you mentioned it. I will look here at the other suggestion now.
