Currency - Guide to Ukrainian Currency and Money
The money in Ukraine may sound peculiar to foreigners, but it works in much the same was as the currency of most other countries. It is necessary to exchange your currency into UAH in order to get about the country effectively. Ukrainian money can be imported up to a limit of UAH1000 and exported up to a limit of UAH10 000 which makes it quite easy to get in and out of the country with money. If you wish to import foreign currency there is a US$10 000 limit as well as a US$5000 export limit. If you need to exceed any of these amounts, special permission must be obtained.
The currency of Ukraine is Hryvnya (UAH) which is comprised of 100 kopiyok. You will be able to get coins in 50, 25, 10, 5, 2 and 1 kopiyok denominations. Notes are available in groupings of 200, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 UAH. If you need to exchange money, it is advisable that you do it only at a currency booth on the street or in banks, as exchanging money on the black-market can be dangerous. It is also a good idea to keep all receipts relating to money changing. Most banks are open Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 5:30pm.
Credit and Debit cards are not readily accepting in Ukraine and most travelers should be aware of the fact that Ukraine has a high level of credit card fraud. If you attempt to make use of traveler cheques, they should be made out in US Dollars but these are also not widely accepted. We strongly recommend that you make use of the various money exchanging methods available as this is the most commonly accepted form of money in Ukraine.

Hi Conrad. I travel to Ukraine often, my wife and her family is from there. I conduct online business and actually handle many transactions in various major cash currencies such as GBP, USD, EUR, and also UAH since I frequent there. So I have various international currencies available and I can convert your Ukraine currency (UAH) to GBP if you wish (or EUR or USD). Please contact me via email (mykiev@yahoo.com). Regards, Bruce .....RE your inquiry:

Spent September and early October in Ukraine. Love the people - really pleased to see the fresh paint and rennovated public buildings. However, unemployment is the biggest problem alongside the inadequated medical system. We represent the Ukraine Aid and Education fund, based in Donald, Vic, Aust. We support university students, micro enterprises and send humanitarian aid containers. We would love to farm there!!! best soil
