Bakhchisaray - Step Back into Medieval Times

Come discover Bakhchisaray, an amazing destination in Ukraine. The city of Bakhchisaray was founded at the end of the 15th century and today it has a population of more than 30,000. Bakhchisaray is ideally situated in the large agricultural region of Crimea. There are many charming attractions and places to see in this lovely Crimean town. One of the main tourist attractions in Bakhchisaray is Khan's Palace. This is a "must see" for any visitor to Bakhchisaray.

Although Bakhchisaray has modern features with many fun and exciting things to do, the old secion of the city is most interesting for tourists to come and visit. Bakhchisaray has kept its medieval atmosphere with its many narrow and winding streets, as well as many other medieval features. Bakhchisaray is also best-known among Russian speakers for its romantic associations with Alexander Pushkin's poem "The Fountain of Bakhchisaray". Also of interest is the archaeological exhibition that is located in the center of the old city. This is a real highlight for visitors as you can get acquainted with the ancient life and existence of the local people at a time when it was one of the most densely populated regions of Europe. The museum's ethnographic collection is dedicated to the cultural life of the Crimean Tatars.

Bakhchisaray boasts some of the most ancient and architecturally significant buildings. The famous Palace of the Khans is definitely one palace you do not want to miss. It has an outstanding beauty all of its own and is recognized by its white marble fountains that were built in the 16th century. Today, the palace is an exquisite museum.

Bakhchisaray also has some lovely outdoor activities to enjoy. You can go mountain biking or hiking, which is not particularly challenging, but will delight you with views of pure water springs and picture perfect mountain lakes. Yet another famous attraction in Bakhchisaray is the collections of bare mountain rocks that became a feature at the official exhibition of the World Geological Congress in 1984. For years geologists of leading universities around the world have had their field practice here in Crimea's Bakchisaray.
